Bernd Schuster is a retired German footballer who was born on December 22, 1959, in Augsburg, Germany. He was a talented midfielder who appeared in over 500 games during his professional career. He is widely regarded as one of the best German footballers of his generation.
Schuster started his career at FC Koln before moving to Barcelona in 1980. He won four La Liga titles in his six-year spell at Camp Nou and was a key part of the team that won the European Cup in 1982. Schuster won the Ballon d'Or in 1980 while playing for Koln, which is given to the best player in Europe.
After leaving Barcelona, Schuster played for a number of other clubs including Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Bayer Leverkusen. He won two La Liga titles with Real Madrid and was a key player in the team that won the UEFA Cup in 1985.
Schuster also had a successful international career and played 66 times for Germany between 1979 and 1984. After retiring as a player, he became a coach and has managed a number of teams including Real Madrid, Getafe, and Malaga.
